Prof. Dr. Christoph Viebahn

 

Christoph Viebahn graduated in medicine at Erlangen University in 1981, having spent one year each at the Middlesex Hospital Medical School (London, UK) and at Berne University (Switzerland). After completion of his medical thesis on the anatomy of the neocortex in the department of Kurt Fleischhauer at Bonn University, he worked for one year at the Medway Hospital, Gillingham, Kent (UK) as a Senior House Officer in orthopaedics and general surgery. Embryological work on the development of the gonads and early germ cells in the department of Hubert Wartenberg at the Institute of Anatomy of Bonn University lead to the Habilitation in 1992. Thereafter, his research focussed on head and mesoderm induction during gastrulation and the differentiation of primordial germ cells in the mammalian embryo. A sabbatical at the National Institutes of Health (Bethesda, USA) in the group of Michael Kuehn in 1997 was followed by appointments as Professor of Anatomy at the University of Halle-Wittenberg in 2000 and at the University of Göttingen in 2002.
