synapse

Our goal is to understand the function of key synaptic molecules in synapse formation and synapse maturation. Both processes are important for proper brain development and function. Synapse development relies on a highly organized transport and accumulation of proteins and organelles to nascent synaptic sites, including synaptic vesicles, scaffolding proteins and associated proteins. Once a synapse is assembled the molecular composition is completed and even exchanged between neighboring synapses to allow for individual synapse function. By investigating synaptic proteins such as Neuroligins, Neuroligin interacting proteins or other synaptic factors we want to unravel the molecular mechanisms of synapse assembly and maturation.
